Ryugatake Peak (470m)has been designated a national cultural property for its scenic beauty. This observation spot commands a panoramic view of numerous islands large and small in the Yatsushiro Sea as well as views of Yatsushiro and of Fugendake Peak across the sea in Unzen. The poet Noguchi Ujo wrote of the beautiful scene, "A single glance from Ryugatake Peak will catch Mt. Aso, Unzen, and far Kirishima".
